CAT workshop with Cody Walker

Date: Friday, October 15th, 2021

Time: 8 AM to 5 PM

Location: Denis Delehanty’s Studio at: 15832 Berlin Turnpike, Purcellville, VA 20132

Cost Including Wood: $ 90.00

Workshop Project: Turning a Tea Pot requiring Off-Axis and Muti-Axis turning.

Bring your lunch or order out with other members of the workshop.

Workshop tool requirements:

  • a steb center or spur drive
  • live center
  • expandable four jaw chuck
  • compass
  • metric ruler or tape
  • 4.5″x4.5″x9″ rectangular blank, 5″ to 6″ blanks can be used as well
  • small square
  • a hollowing tool
  • bowl gouge or spindle gouge

Compasses, rulers and squares can be shared if necessary. It would also be helpful but not necessary to have some jacob’s chucks with 2″ forestner bits on hand.  Short tool rests would be helpful but not necessary.

There are openings for eight students in the workshop.

Details: Jerry Measimer will hold a workshop on August 20, 2021 to teach us how to turn a mini hat.  Participants will get an understanding of good tool control, turning green wood, bending the wood and using a light to reach very thin walls.

Tools needed:
5/8 and  1/2 bowl gouge
3/8 spindle gouge
Bullnose scraper
Callipers 4” or 6”
Chuck and light

 

Interactive Remote Demonstration with Cindy Drozda

Date: Thursday, July 30th, 2020

Time: 7-9 PM

Location: The Interactive Remote Demonstration (IRD) will be presented via Zoom event. The Zoom event ID and password will be emailed to all registered attendees between 1-5 PM on July 29th.

Cindy’s Biography: Cindy Drozda is a full-time woodturning artist from Boulder Colorado and has been turning since 1985. Her elegant lidded vessels combining classic forms with delicate finials are exhibited at the finest juried art shows in the country. She has been invited to teach in Canada, England, and at symposia and clubs across the US. Before choosing woodturning as a career Cindy worked as a cabinet maker, rebuilt airplanes, and made hang gliding equipment. In 1988, she participated in a 6 month long crossing of the entire US by non-powered hang glider. Woodturning is her latest exciting adventure!

Time: 8 AM to 5 PM

Cost Including Wood: $ 150.00

Workshop Project: A hollow form turned from green wood.

There are openings for eight students in the workshop. Registration for Mark Gardner’s workshop will open Saturday evening, February 15th at 7:30 PM

The following projects were included in the workshop:
 
Sgraffito Round Platter, twelve Inch Round platter with a wide rim that is painted and carved,
Eight inch Square platter that is painted and carved from edge to edge.
