Fellow CAT Members,
This is a follow-up appeal for assistance with setting up and/or participating at CAT’s booth at the Bluemont Fair to be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 - 22. The volunteer opportunities are described below. Have a look and please consider lending a hand for this activity by replying to this email and indicating where/when you would like to help. I will get back to you with a final schedule of assignments.
Thanking you in advance,
Carole

BOOTH SETUP
We need a crew at the Fair location on Friday evening (9/20) from about 5-7p.m. (exact time TBD) to help set up the booth and equipment. The CAT trailer will be there with everything necessary for the task. We just need the hands and the muscle to make it happen.
VOLUNTEER DEMONSTRATORS
We will be running ongoing demonstrations for Fair attendees on both Saturday and Sunday (9/21 -22) from 10a.m. through 5p.m. with two “shifts” (i.e., 10:00-1:30 and 1:30-5:00). There’s nothing like turning and decorating a spinning top to light up the eyes of a young child… especially when they are given the final product! To appeal to the adults who visit the booth, we’ll be turning small (6”) bowls and giving them away as well. The lathes, turning blanks, sharpening station, and ancillary equipment/tools will be provided… demonstrators should bring their own gouges and a hone (if you use one) to maintain/perfect your cutting edge.
PRE-TURNING SPINNING TOPS
The demonstrators at our booth will be turning traditional spinning tops as give-aways to the youngsters (or, even, the young-at-heart) in the crowd. If you are not able to participate in the real-time demonstrations, how about turning and embellishing 5 tops in your own shop prior to the Fair so that we have a supply of pre-turned tops that can be given to those who visit our booth. (NOTE: Because these will be going to children, we ask that you adhere to the AAW-supported non-choking standard, i.e., a minimum of 1-¼” diameter and 2-¼” length.) If you choose to help in this way, reply to this email so I can arrange to collect your tops.
BOOTH TAKEDOWN
We need a crew at the Fair location on Sunday afternoon (9/22) from about 5-7p.m. (exact time TBD) to help take down the booth and load the equipment into the CAT trailer. Once again, we just need the hands and the muscle to make it happen.
