About this event
This hands-on class will teach you how to turn both a rim cut and natural edge bowl using the David Ellsworth process. This is accomplished primarily by using a 60o bowl gouge shaped with the
Ellsworth grind in various presentations to the blank to take it from shaping, roughing and finishing both the exterior and interior of the bowl. The hope will be to provide both type of bowl blanks from the same log section.
Note that a 60obowl gouge with a swept back grind sharpened with a Vari-grind jig will be close enough to the Ellsworth grind for class purposes. There are several methods described on-line to accomplish this. You may also choose to regrind your tool using my Ellsworth jig at the workshop. Frequent sharpening of your bowl gouge during the class is paramount, so be prepared to make the trip to the grinder often.
Tools:
- Face shield (required)
- 5/8" (recommended) or 1/2" bowl gouge with a parabolic flute with a 60o nose angle and a swept back Ellsworth or Irish grind
