Skill Building Workshop - Tools Sharpening

Description:
A sharp turning tool is the turner's best friend. 😀
If you are having difficulty achieving smooth cuts and relying on scraping rather than cutting then this is the class for you. In this
hands-on class you will learn a quick and easy way to repeatedly and consistently sharpen all of your wood turning tools using the Oneway Wolverine sharpening system on a slow speed 8”grinder. The Oneway Vari-grind jig will be demystified and you will be shown a simple method to sharpen all of your bowl and spindle gouges. Sharpening the spindle roughing gouge, parting
tool, skew, and scraper (traditional and negative rake profiles) will also be discussed and demonstrated. Various shop-made and commercially available jigs will be demonstrated and available for student use. Bring your own turning tools - as many as you want to shape and sharpen to practice your skills in class.

Note:
As a bonus, a demonstration and explanation of the Tormek sharpening system will be
given. Accessories to use the Tormek jigs on a Wolverine system will be shown and available for
students to try on their own tools.

Tools: Students are to bring their own turning tools to sharpen. Students are encouraged to bring
their own sharpening system with accessories (e.g. V-arm, platform and gouge jig) to class as
well. We will inspect the system for proper set up and have the student sharpen on their own
systems as system setup varies from shop to shop and as the disclaimer states – your results may
vary. If you are unable to bring your sharpening system or do not have a system please contact
Ken Poirier (kapperall@hotmail.com) or Trevor Albo (talbro79@comcast.net) as soon as possible. Each student will have their own sharpening system.
